Vinod Gupta And The Power Of Philanthropy
While most countries saw a high number of cases and high death tolls for the majority of 2020, many have begun to decline. But, not all countries. India is currently going through a devasting third wave. The Covid-19 is sweeping through communities and cities, causing despair.
While overwhelmed hospitals have become common during Covid-19 outbreaks, India’s healthcare system was already in a fragile state before the pandemic. Hospitals were already understaffed and underfunded, and the stress of the virus is magnifying the issue.
The country needs help, and aid has poured in from across the globe. Donations have come in from various charities and organizations, but some of the largest donations have come from within India.
One such contributor is Vinod Gupta, an Indian-born businessman. Vinod Gupta has donated fifty million dollars to aid India in its effort to help with its Covid-19 pandemic. Many people have had their reason to contribute towards India’s aid, but Vinod Gupta’s philanthropic efforts are motivated by a philosophy called altruism.
Altruism defines itself as a way to find practical solutions to help those in need. Vinod Gupta is doing that in India right now. Aside from his monetary donations, Vinod used his connections and his foundation to launch a public outreach program to temporarily help those who were out of work because of the pandemic.
Since the program’s launch in April 2020, Vinod and his program have helped people who live around and work at the IIT Kharagpur. In total, the program has helped some ten thousand people.
Vinod Gupta is currently is a General Partner at Everest Capital Partners, Inc. Vinod was born and raised in India and received a Bachelors’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering and a Masters’s from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
